Katie, thank you for your post. I hope that your little boy is doing well. My son also had very low counts in the beginning, but with time and various treatments they kept creeping up to a normal level. I know this is a very stressful time for you. Please take comfort in the fact that the vast majority of kids in the 2-5 yr age group outgrow this. Although, I know that is hard to hear when you are in the midst of this nightmare. My son was diagnosed in the end of July '08 and in Jan '09 he was cleared by his hematologist. Your son will be able to do his favorite things again. It has been a month since you posted your comment, my apologies for not responding sooner. Please let us know how your son is doing.

This particular blog gets a lot of hits and I just want to give an update. As of January '09, my son has officially been cleared of the ITP. The doctor said his next big virus would be the tell tale sign if the disorder will act up again. He went through a virus a couple of weeks ago and no signs. So, if any other parents reading this are dealing with ITP, know that within this age group (2-5) chances are high that the disorder will correct itself. I hope that gives you comfort.

What a scare you must have had. I am glad to hear that Hayden is progressing in the right direction. I don't check my email as often as I need to but as soon as I saw this wanted you to know that your family is is in our prayers.

Take Care,

I read your post and wanted to let you know about a great website that could help offer support, advice and information on the different treatments you may hear about in your journey, which I pray will be very short!

www.pdsa.org

There is a discussion board especially for the "parents of ITP children".

Blessings,
Pamela

Quick update on the little guy. His counts went up to 24,000 today, so he's out of the danger zone. He'll be monitored weekly to make sure his counts keep going up until he is back in the normal zone of 150,000. But, I'm told that I still need to keep him and his brother from wrestling. Not sure how I'm going to do that.
