Princess Mommy
Oh how my son wishes I was a princess. My 5 year old has been making a lot of statements, and asking a lot of questions lately that are making me feel like Iā?Tm just not living up to his ideal standards of a mom. No he is not looking for a June Cleaver. (Thank goodness, I could never do those pearls on a daily basis!) He wants a Princess Aurora aka Sleeping Beauty. Although he would settle for a Cinderella. Sorry Ariel and Belle, my boy likes blondies. I donā?Tt stand a chance either, Iā?Tm a reddish brunette.
He wanted to color a Sleeping Beauty picture the other day. While we were browsing through the coloring pages on the internet, he asked, ā?oMom how come you donā?Tt look like that?ā? As he was pointing to Aurora in all her princess glamour and glory. GASP! In my head I was thinking, ā?oGreatā?¦of all the princesses, my son wants me to be the one who is the most submissive with the least personality.ā? At least I like her name. He then told me that he wished I would wear pink dresses, like the ones Sleeping Beauty wears. Honestly, I donā?Tt think Iā?Tve ever worn a pink dress, but I do have a pink flowy skirt that I wear a lot in the summer. Maybe he was just missing that piece of my femininity.
I really did not know how to respond to my son other than to tell him that ball gowns were a little too formal for a stay at home mom. I could definitely work on the pink stuff though since I happen to love that color. As for the blond hair, well letā?Ts just say he is going to have to get over that one. Iā?Tm pretty sure that Iā?Tm not going to look any closer to a princess if my hair is blond. Iā?Tm actually quite sure that I would look downright scary.
Oh I almost forgot, he did tell me I looked just like a princess once. It was Princess Fiona while we were watching Shrek 2 a long time ago. I thought that was so sweet until I realized he was pointing to the big green ogre Fiona. Lucky meā?¦Iā?Tve got an honest kid. How nice.
