A Greener World
Green is very popular these days. And I’m not talking about money. I am talking about the environment. More and more people are jumping on the bandwagon and going green. Which is a good bandwagon to jump onto.
I went green about 8 years ago when I married my husband whose last name is Greener. Well no pressure there. In this day of environmental consciousness, Greener is one heck of a last name to live up to. And I am slowly trying to live up to it.
Â
If anyone would have told me 23 years ago that I would end up with the last name Greener, I would have scoffed and said, “No way! I’ll keep my maiden name thank you very much!” You see, 23 years ago I was a preteen. And let’s face it, if you were 12 years old in the 1980’s, nothing was worse than being called “GREEN.” You may as well have been called a coward because that’s what you were. Too afraid to French kiss. And was I ever green. Heck no I didn’t want to kiss my boyfriend! I was twelve, I didn’t even want to talk to him or be in the same room as him. I didn’t mind holding his hand while we roller skated to Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” though because we didn’t have to talk. And I was considered lucky to have a boy to slow skate with. However, as soon as the song was over, I went back to the safety of my giggling girlfriends and he rolled over to the game room to play air hockey. But I digress…
So here I am many years later with this very green last name and not always sure how to make it proud. I’ve recycled for years, but I know there are so many other things I can do. In my quest to become even greener, I’ve found several Green Web sites to be helpful.

Now if you want to become greener without having to marry the tallest man in Europe (his name happens to be Christopher Greener), then check out some of the websites I mentioned. They provide many ideas and tips on how to impact our environment in a positive way. Then hopefully in this year and every year after, all preteens will feel proud to be called “GREEN.”
